Is it true that this presidential candidate has amnesia due to subtle dementia?

Did he simply play the i do not know card?

The last time it happened he had his eye ball rolled and was absent for few minutes before he said he does not know.

That was about the insurance coverage for contraceptives and viagra.

Did you know that experts are sure that McCain is simply showing signs of ARMI(age related memory impairment - dementia)? Is it true that this presidential candidate has amnesia due to subtle dementia?
He certainly shows signs of flip flopping and more than minor confusion on the issues. He doesn't seem to remember what his position is on drilling, the draft, taxes etc etc. He's dangerous. I'm voting Obama, for a host of reasons.
That's just because he swallowed too much of that nasty Agent Orange in Nam.Is it true that this presidential candidate has amnesia due to subtle dementia?
Uh errrrr ummmm NO

Vote McCain
McSlime sucks. Vote OBAMAIs it true that this presidential candidate has amnesia due to subtle dementia?
Really? Experts say that?? Wow it must be true. The link says it all!!...oh wait you didnt provide a link...nice try though. And what experts? the CNN news desk?
I didn't know that Lyndon LaRouche (registered Democrat) was running again since he's now a convicted felon.
The Republicans vehemently denies McCain has ARM. But they also realize he has no chance of winning, so they are just riding him along to the finish line in second place.
obama what a joke

I bet all those years as a POW caused some sort of emotional problems.
I am a caregiver for an elderly person and the similarities with the mental impairments that McCain has are striking.
Who are these experts? You?

I thought so.

NEXT!
The case for McCain's dementia is not as strong as the case for Bush's but he is clearly out of touch in more than one way still. Despite how he says "my friend" more times then a Mexican in front of Home Depot, he has shown time and time again that he has anger issues, which anybody would expect from a long time prisoner of war. Even still that anger seems to cloud his judgment at times which can be more dangerous than dementia.

OBAMA, its time for a smart level headed president again.
Well he kicked Juniors *** all up and down the stage at Saddleback. Or was that his twin? You people really need to make up your mind.Did he cheat or does he have Alzheimer's? Because you greedy, scandal mongers can't have both.

Would someone suffering from partial amnesia fall in love with the same person and choose the same friends ?

let's say someone has an accident and suffers from partial amnesia.... there is a time span they don't remember in which they fell in love and made friends with people .... would they choose the same people they once chose again ?Would someone suffering from partial amnesia fall in love with the same person and choose the same friends ?
I don't think so. I think it would be like 50 first dates just because it happened good yesterday does not mean it will today. However twins separated at birth usually have very similar traits, (smoke the same brand have wives with the same names or kids with the same names) so I guess it is possible but then again so is getting struck by lightning sooooo.... RWould someone suffering from partial amnesia fall in love with the same person and choose the same friends ?
I guess it depends on the injury causing the amnesia weather it has changed

the person, also even if it hasn't they may make different choices now than

before the injury, time will have passed day to day life would have changed

stressors would be different.

Having said all that I believe they could make identical choices as during the

memory impairment.

Interesting question ?

Best Wishes.

14th Year Psychology Student Expanding The Universe Atom by Atom.Would someone suffering from partial amnesia fall in love with the same person and choose the same friends ?
honestly i think it's not necessarily this way... even though movies and books show it would, i think that it all depends. if the person stays with the other person all the time and notices he/she cares for him/her, and blah blah, well then in that case i guess they could fall in love over again... it's not necessarily that way, you never know, maybe they'll start hating themselves

sometimes, personality changes upon amnesia, if it changes then i guess the person wouldn't fall for the same person nor choose the same friends... whereas if not, iguess there would be a probability of choosing the same people...

it all depends, really
I would think that certain events in our lives influence our interests, personality and friends. If this person doesn't remember these events due to amnesis, I wonder if their personality, interests and goals would change as a result..leading to perhaps different friends and acquaintances.

I suspect somone i know is faking amnesia? How can i disprove them?

He says he completely lost about the last 6 months of his memory. However i think hes lieing.I suspect somone i know is faking amnesia? How can i disprove them?
If he's lying, it's a pretty hard lie to keep going for too long. Mention enough big/topical events/issues from the last few months and if he's lying he's sure to slip up sooner or later and offer an opinion or observation. If he's genuine, at least he'll find it interesting! Talk to him about it and see can you find out what might have caused it, or what might be causing him to lie..I suspect somone i know is faking amnesia? How can i disprove them?
its not your business

Will my computer run Amnesia the Dark Descent?

I have a Windows Inspiron 15 laptop and I understand it does not have a good graphics card. However, I am currently looking into this Amnesia game because it looks amazing. My computer as of now can support Minecraft, Starcraft II, and WoW but will it support Amnesia?

Also, if you can, if i would happen to wipe my computer of all memory is there a way i can redownload Amnesia without having to pay again like you can with the other 3 games I listed.

Thank you! Will my computer run Amnesia the Dark Descent?
yes it should run on fairly high settings and as for the second question it should remember that you bought it because most services like that save the info on their program not in your memory banks

Wow. I could never fake amnesia. It's too hard to avoid talking about what happened in your life, especially if you're faking six months of amnesia. There are so many memories to avoid in conversation.

Is he trying to claim amnesia to cover a crime? Seeking attention? Does he say what led to the amnesia?

I'm curious as to whether he claims to have seen doctors about the amnesia. If he does, has he said anything about hypnosis? You may suggest regression hypnosis and see if he totally refuses or considers the idea.

Ask him about items he acquired during the last six months: That's a cool shirt, where did you get it? Take him around people he met in the past six months and don't reintroduce them.

I'm not sure when he started saying this, but if he is lying, he'll eventually slip up. Few people can keep a lie of this magnitude going for long.
leave them alone they may be lonely and attention seekingI suspect somone i know is faking amnesia? How can i disprove them?
maybe you can bring up something funny that happend within those six months and start talking about it and see if he joins in.
My mom plays the amnesia game. It's lame, isn't it? Even if you catch her in it she'll just say "I never said that" or "I don't know what you're talking about" with this big stupid look on her face. It's annoying as hell but just ignore it and avoid that person, if they want to be attention-seekers they can do it on their own time.I suspect somone i know is faking amnesia? How can i disprove them?
Give him a lie detector test. That should show him.

Is it possible to get permanent amnesia?

Okay, I'm writing a book, and it's about a girl who gets into a cheering accident, and she gets amnesia. Is it possible for an eighteen year old girl to get permanent amnesia with only very few memories coming back? Oh, and if anyone has any ideas for a title, I would be happy to hear them. The girl falls in love with her best friend in it, and dumps her quarterback boyfriend. Help please! Thanks in advance! Is it possible to get permanent amnesia?
yes, it happens. If you're writing a book with any medical anything in it, definitely do some research. Even minor research would help. And that doesn't mean asking a question like this and relying on people who may not know what they're talking about. At least read the Wiki page about amnesia if nothing else. And, yes, regardless to what teachers say, wiki is a great source. The people that write the articles typically have degrees in the area and it is regurlarly checked for errors. So, yeah, read that and maybe do a little more research if you don't think it tells you enough but you should be good after that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AmnesiaIs it possible to get permanent amnesia?
Yes, its possible. Generally would have no memories right away and then a few might come back.

Is a temporary amnesia possible for a car accident victim?

and how long could the amnesia last?Is a temporary amnesia possible for a car accident victim?
temporary amnesia is highly possible for a car accident victim, especially if they suffered head trauma. Amnesia can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days, sometimes even years. It all really depends on the person.

What is the lowest price I can find Amnesia: The Dark Descent? -10 POINTS-?

(sorry for asking twice) When looking around on Steam I found Amnesia for 拢12.99 but was wondering if I could find a lower price anywhere else. Bearing in mind I'm not going to torrent download. Anywhere would be good and if anyone has any details on if it's going to be on sale soon would be greatly appreciated :DWhat is the lowest price I can find Amnesia: The Dark Descent? -10 POINTS-?
It's possible that Steam may have a sale at the end of the month because of Halloween holiday here in the States. I believe they did this last year, put up several horror titles like Resident Evil and Dead Space and others. If they do have the sale, then I imagine that they would include Amnesia as well so I would just say be patient and wait another few weeks and see what happens.

What are the odds of Dissociative Amnesia?

I may not look it. but I have had a very rough life. There are big chunks of my memory missing. Even more recent events are fading away. Sometimes something will trigger a memory and then it fades away back in to the ether. People have basically given up on reminiscing with me since I recall little or nothing of the event, it is like it never happened. What are the odds of Dissociative Amnesia?
Your mind is sparing you grief.

    What are you eating?

what exercise are you getting daily min. 15 minutes/day?

what relaxation techniques are you practicing twice daily 20 minutes each time?

AND what talk therapy are you receiving for an hour per week?

  • Does reincarnation suffer from an amnesia problem in it's intended functioning?

Reincarnation allows us to make up for our sins in the previous lives, right? But how are we supposed to do that if we forget everything about our previous life when we are reborn.

If we do good in this life then we can improve our station in the next life but what about the sins we still carry around with us.How do we make up for them if we can't even remember them, huh?

Or is the slate wiped clean after we are reincarnated so we can start from scratch?Does reincarnation suffer from an amnesia problem in it's intended functioning?
Think of the Reincarnation cycle as one long wide road that the "Physical" Us traverse from the Animal level to Enlightenment with the Soul guiding us. "Lead us not into Temptation" just happens to be those Side roads that lead to Dead Ends. The people walking ahead of us warn us of these, they are the Wise ones who tell us that smoking just isn't worth it, Violence doesn't lead us anywhere, Stuff like that. In every life cycle we meet them and learn. Sin is not heeding this wisdom, we loose valuable time, wander, but there is always someone to pull us back into the Main road. It may take many life cycles to get back but we do, in the end, continue our journey. If you do believe in Reincarnation then you need to flip your vision from that of a physical Human Being who doesn't know what happens before you are born and after you die, to someone who realizes that he may very well be a soul choosing particular lives in order to check out where this road leads, including those dark alleys!
It's a made up idea, so you can make up your own explanations, there is nothing about reincarnation that is based on empirical science.

The more far fetched, the better the explanation.Does reincarnation suffer from an amnesia problem in it's intended functioning?
you will get all the doubts cleared if you meditate under a capable guru who can lead your life. meditate and enjoy by feeling the essence.
people are not reincarnated thats unethical seriously! like yes lets make the human race never ending and let them suffer! i think because new people with new consciences and new views are born that civilization can evolve and not old *recycled* people i know thats mean but thats how i see reincarnation it deprives you of the opportunity to show you matter since you re going to do this all over again anyway so whats the rush! i don't believe that were born into this life to improve our station in our next life then its a never ending circle meaning the human race will never die out which is impossible we will eventually die out!Does reincarnation suffer from an amnesia problem in it's intended functioning?
Of course. I have forgotten everything from my previous life(lives). Even that I lived them.
Reincarnation does not happen to re-teach our human experience to us. It is a soul-lesson. Reincarnation theory explains that since our human existence happens along with our soul, whatever we do in our mortal/human life leaves its impressions or lessons on our soul. It may not even be a matter of "messing" up in this life we know. Ultimately, our soul's journey is not up to us. We are granted life in order to experience it. Physically, we may not remember past experience--although there are those who are in touch with impressions of past lives.

We are on a dual journey, when you think about it. There is the experience we have "here," and the one our soul has everywhere else. It's kind of neat, when you think about it.
If you are truly interested in this then you need to know that Jesus, Himself declared that there was no such thing as reincarnation when he said "Man is appointed once to die and after that the judgement." The Apostle Paul said "To be absent from the body was to be present with the Lord." Live your life now for you won't get another chance.
You're in charge: you need to remember that. You have total and absolute free will (except when it clashes with another person's free will). The core dynamic of reincarnation is free will (yours and those who come in contact with you). That's the only way you can learn -- through the choices you make and experiencing the consequences of those choices.

It's not about "making up for sins." It's about learning, becoming enlightened. Karma can be very difficult at times but it is always positive, if you're open to understanding its lesson. Life is a learning experience in which we teach ourselves through cause and effect and - always - through free will.

"Sin" is a very misleading term to use when the subject is reincarnation. It's a word that relates back to superstitious ideas about being punished (for punishment's sake) by some divinely wrathful being. What you think of as sin is actually ignorance: it's like an empty place within the individual where wisdom should be, but isn't yet. Think of the angry little child who bites his mum when he doesn't get his way, or throws his toy at a playmate when feeling angry. A young child who misbehaves that way doesn't understand the harm he is doing; he will have to learn these things as he matures. In a way we are all children at the soul level, still learning and evolving.

Re-incarnation and Karma are linked. True. But they are not completely co-dependent.

Re-incarnation occurs as a natural law. A cycle of birth in every life form -through Human life too. Since the consciousness is highest here, it is, obviously, best suited to attain Nirvana through it.

Karma, on the other hand, is simply deeds or actions. Every action that you take - creates a cosmic ripple that is bound to affect you in your future in a small or big way. So Karma is really about "causality" and explores cause and effect.

karmas may be mundane, deliberate, ritualistic/routine, dutiful or vicious/evil. Either way, they create our future for us.

Many of our karmas also affect several others. The sum total of the Karmas that have generated negativity or imbalance or even positivity and are unaccounted for in this life, are brought to fruition in the next.

In that sense, you do begin with a clean slate. Or if you prefer, compare it with a race where some get a head start thanks to previous Karmas.

Personally, I prefer the comparison that we all start off equally but with different backpacks - heavier/lighter, valuable/worthless.

As for memory, that is a trivial physical thing.

In order to strive for perfection and Nirvana/Moksha, you do not need a petty log book of "what I did last time". It is immaterial. For even with the memory, if there is no understanding of what you did wrong, its pointless.

In any case, Memory and Mind are seen as human senses susceptible to flaws. They need to be controlled and subdued.

This is in contrast with western outlook.

For instance - "Manmaani" is a Hindi word suggesting "obeying the mind". It is a negative trait and a flaw.

The closest english interpretation is "follow your desire" which is considered a positive trait !!!
We also don't remember previous incarnations to prevent them interfering wit the current one.

Does reincarnation suffer from an amnesia problem in it's intended functioning?
i think your soul is supposed to remember, but not the body, if teh body does, it kind of interferes with this life, if the soul does, it doesnt interfer

the soul is supposed to learn from this, not our body

its always the soul that lives on, the body always dies

i think its not so we can start from scratch, as the soul knows what hapened, its to give THIS life another chance and to learn from it what ever it was we didnt learn when we made the mistake or whatever
First of all, you cannot stuff the Hindu and Buddhist concept of rebirth into a Christian type concept. In Buddhism there is karma, also known as cause and effect; not sin.

Think of rebirth this way: your mind is like software, your brain is the hardware, depending on what kind of processor (brain) you have depends on how well the program (mind) will run. Further, the mind compresses the memories of past lives. You have to be able to access them.

As far as your karma goes, how you live and what you do in this life could generate merit that will purify past negative karmic actions. If you are serious about learning how to do that for yourself, then check out these sites:

    http://www.buddhanet.net

http://www.lamajigme.comDoes reincarnation suffer from an amnesia problem in it's intended functioning?
True that you don't remember abt earlier life.

But you have to get the results of your earlier deeds, whether of this life or of earlier life, if left and not got in that life. The principle of KARM %26amp; FAL (Deeds and Results) is sure and one has to get that, of all deeds - good or bad. Good Results for good deeds and bad results for bad deeds.

    http://armageddonangelsufos.com/new_page鈥?/a>
It is never a clean page, but It is like a new page with the gist/summary of all the old pages.

It is not a hard and fast rule to go a linear way. There is no need to remember anything, as our current body/personality reflects the dominant and residual life/nature of early lives. Thus body is the reflection of our nature/soul, once we die our nature is absorbed in the consciousness of the soul to manifest again. This exactly like a singularity manifesting with the form representing that nature gets exercised adds/substracts properties, gets back to that singularity. The next state would be a cleaner state (both good and bad in the memory/senses) , the substractions are the sufferings (incl. of headaches/mental stress) but sometimes rarely 'a few pages in between should be a trashed/'thrown out' as incarnation as lower forms' to produce a next cleaner state. Ultimately, all unclean states/stages are expensed to an 'absolute knowledge' state. [liberation is an absolute state of action, knowledge, dedication and humility ]

    P.S:

The concept of soul in Hinduism is not purely the individuality but together with the source/Self/omniscience(Infinite mind of God) of creation, a witness that exercises the karma acc. to situations. Thus, one with good intentions are made to expense all the bad karma in this human life, thus can elevate to higher levels of consciousness in next lives. Such Source makes sure that devolution happens less likely.

    Amnesia-Memory loss

    Insomnia-Unable to sleep
Insomnia is a medical condition characterized by the patient鈥檚 inability to sleep or rest his/her mind for a reasonable time. The common symptoms include trouble falling asleep, waking up frequently at night and finding it difficult to go back to sleep again, waking up very early before dawn, or feeling non-refreshed even after an apparent 7-8 hrs sleep at night. The direct outcome of this condition is that the patients, during the day, will appear sleepy and fatigued, may have troubles concentrating or thinking clearly, and very often, behaves depressed and irritable. However, thanks to the developments happened in the medical domain, insomnia is completely curable now, the only important aspect being to diagnose the exact cause of insomnia with precision.

Does age have to do with temporary or minor amnesia or mental block?

Some days I can't get my thoughts into writing. Sometimes I forget what to say or the right words to use. I'm in my 50s.Does age have to do with temporary or minor amnesia or mental block?
My mother who is the same age as you has the same problem. It's good to force yourself to memorize poetry or calculate mentally or manually instead of using the calculator. It would be a good therapy. Learning a Foreign Language, even at your age can help boost memory power. I have a friend who is in his 70's and his memory and cognitive ability is sometimes sharper than an 18 year old. Also I bought her (my mom) and urged her to take Omega 3 fatty acids and Acetyl-L- Carnitine, and they seem to help a lot in this so called temporary mental block. They also are good supplements for the heart.
Mental blocks strike both the young and the old alike.

Temporary amnesia do not also distinguish the age of their victims.

It is the loss of energy in a person, caused by too much work or stress that leads to mental blocks and amnesiac symptoms.

You must rejuvenate by taking more time out for yourself. Go on leisure trips, eating chocolate or ice cream. Try massage parlors. Frequent dance balls, or movie houses. You can also try sky jumping, hang gliding, scuba diving .... physical sports that are pleasurable.

So, when do we both leave?Does age have to do with temporary or minor amnesia or mental block?
Welcome to the senior's world. I am, too, in my early 50's and am experiencing these things you've mentioned. As my age goes up, I am getting more and more forgetful. But I try to help myself by doing mental exercises like doing Nintendo's Brain-jogging, solving sudokus and kakuros, crossword puzzles and read a lot, have a memo book to write down my appointments, names of new persons I have met and where.
Memory lapses do happen occasionally to all of us, regardless of our age.

There's this 6-year old kid who broke the cookie jar. When confronted by his mom, he looked at his mom straight in the eye and in all innocence said "don't know what happened mommy. don't know how chair got there. don't remember me climbing the chair and getting the jar. it dropped by itself. i don't remember a thing."

Teenagers are horrible too in having selective amnesia. In the morning you give them a list of chores to do. By night time not a single thing has been done. And their alibi - "I totally forgot it!"

At least for those getting up in years, there's a valid excuse of these memory lapses.Does age have to do with temporary or minor amnesia or mental block?
Memory loss is usually the first sign of Alzheimer's disease. Many older people may worry about Alzheimer's disease if they start to have memory problems. Having some short-term memory loss in your 60s and 70s is common, and some people with mild memory problems will go on to develop Alzheimer's disease. If you start having memory problems, share your concerns with your family and your doctor.

People who have younger-onset dementia may be in any stage of dementia 鈥?early, middle or late. Experts estimate that some 500,000 people in their 30s, 40s and 50s have Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
OM gosh! You must be kidding! Your avatar doesn't look a day over 30. =P Nah, I don't think that memory lapses come with age. (unless one is afflicted with a disease) I feel that sometimes we just process too much thought. Let me give you an example. A conversation between a son and his mom.

    Son: Na'y may I have P500.00?

Mom: What? Why do you need P400.00? Don't you know that money is hard to come by these days? P300.00 back in the days was a whole months salary! Besides P200.00 is just too big. But since you have been a good boy, here is the P100.00 you asked for. Tipirin mo yan! Lab yu tsup.

Sometimes there are things we deliberately, though subconsciously, forget. I think it is just having too much on one's mind. That is why we need to take a break and regroup our thoughts. (Our brain, just like our body, needs mental gymnastics to keep in shape. We need to exercise it too.)
If it happens frequently, it could be. A slowing down or decline in the responsiveness and activity levels of the brain.
with something as possibly serious as this i think you want to be getting medical advice from a doctor and not from yahoo answers.
yes. when we become old we forget things.

    High. VERY HIGH.

BA: Reading this just reminded me of who I was. Thank you. I'm off to find Cap'n Chopper and continue my mission.
Close to zero--an out-of-shape, fat schlub like me couldn't possibly be an assassin of that elite sort. Seriously. My having depression and having _lots_ of random old injuries stops me. Cold. I'd need an entirely new _body_, and that sort of thing doesn't happen.

Bonus: Truth is, if I had it in me to "remember" and be someone's hero, or villain, I would have done it already. It isn't like the whole world hasn't gone to crap you know? It isn't like we don't need people to stand and fight in the face of a rising tide of overwhelming evil and exploitation.

But the truth is....the horrible battle did mark me too deeply and too young. So to speak. And nobody cares to see me well, not now, not even back when I was younger. That's the sort of thing that only happens for those with money in this ruined world. What are the chances that you are actually a highly skilled assassin suffering from amnesia?

Why do we all have persistent political amnesia?

The political pendulum just swings back and forth every decade or so. We elect Republicans, they suck, so we elect Democrats, and they suck, so we elect Republicans, then they suck, then....

Why do we insist on believing that one party or the other is the answer to all of our problems? Why do we forget so easily how they screwed up the last time? Why do we all have persistent political amnesia?
    anti liberal 2010 2012
When the party in power doesn't listen to the American people then they send a political message by voting them out. If the new party in power doesn't get the message, then their gone next election. There's not much more you can do. Voting for a third party is throwing your vote away so you have to pick the lesser of two evils. This November it's the Republicans and probably also the Republicans in 2012 because I don't see Obama's ideology allowing him to move to the center and work with the Republicans so nothing will get accomplished for 2 more years. The democrats will try to blame the republicans when nothing gets done, but the American people are finally paying attention and those lies won't work if Obama veto's everything the Republicans send to him.Why do we all have persistent political amnesia?
Perhaps it will be different , though I did vote for Ross Perot . So did millions of people from both political parties %26gt; but to no avail.

It was very disappointing and kind of scary when you think about the power that both parties have and how it is getting harder to tell them apart .
that's true but look at the record..when republicans control the house the economy booms more than when the democrats do..if either party controls the white house and congress it declines...weird but true. Why do we all have persistent political amnesia?
Most people have Gold fish memory, it only lasts 3 seconds.
Because it's a lot more fun to believe that THIS TIME your party of choice isn't going to screw up again.
Some are trying to protect what they have earned and some just want what someone else has earned, so we vote for whoever we think is on our side.
    Nothing is perfect:

We try to pick the lesser of two evils.
Money talks BS walks. We do not vote in our Presidents.

Would a person need an MRI if they had amnesia?

What kind of tests would a person who has amnesia have performed on them in the hospital?Would a person need an MRI if they had amnesia?
Initially a CT scan may be done as it is quicker and cheaper than an MRI and will show any obvious causes like cerebral contusion or stroke.

If the CT doesn't show anything or needs more specific imaging then an MRI would be considered.

  • What's the difference between psychogenic and neurological causes of amnesia?

Psychogenic would result from a psychological basis -- as in response to anxiety, trauma, etc.

Neurological causes would be from physical causes in the neurological system -- some type of brain dysfunction.

Just as an aside, some conditions that are considered "psychogenic" are either conditions that the doctors can't find a cause for, don't have the technology to diagnose the issue properly, or just have no idea what is causing it. Psychogenic is a catch-all term for basically anything that the docs can't find a physical cause for. For example, fibromyalgia and even epilepsy were once considered psychogenic. Hope this helps!

What's the difference between psychogenic and neurological causes of amnesia?

Psychogenic amnesia, also known as functional or dissociative amnesia, is a disorder characterized by abnormal memory functioning in the absence of structural brain damage or a known neurobiological cause; severe cases are very rare. It is defined by the presence of retrograde amnesia or the inability to retrieve stored memories and events leading up to the onset of amnesia and an absence of anterograde amnesia or the inability to form new long term memories.

An amnestic syndrome caused by brain injury or damage is known as neurological or organic amnesia.

Is it possible that a mother with amnesia forgets her young son at the park?

i'm writing this short story for my next film and wanted to make a realistic portrayal of amnesia.

A child remembers moments he spent with his mother as he waits for her at the park. She never comes back.

I thought perhaps she could have told him to wait at the park and then never returned because she forgot him.

Realistic? or she just abandoned him?Is it possible that a mother with amnesia forgets her young son at the park?
I wouldn't say that this senario would be realistic, a bond that a mother has with her child is too thick. Unless she does get amnesia from a car accident or other freak accident and loses who she is. Then she wouldn't know who she mothered.
like she said, if the child had 2 go 2 the bathroom really bad and the mom said, sure go ahead (if they were in seeing distance from the bathroom) ill just pack up all this stuff and meet u outside the bathroom. then she gets amnesia and goes off somewhere...Is it possible that a mother with amnesia forgets her young son at the park?
    U better don't have amnesia.
Im not a doctor, But I dont think amnesia pertains to short term memory, Unless she suffered head trauma while at said park, and wandered away in a stupor leaving her child?

But I could be wrong. Is it possible that a mother with amnesia forgets her young son at the park?
realistic only if the amnesia happened after she told the boy to stay. otherwise it would see more short term memory. good luck
    Not very realistic!

Nothing, you will still be charged with robbery.

If you could claim "amnesia" as a defense, there would be no need for prisons.
They still get prosecuted and held responsible for their actions.

There is no requirement that you remember committing the crime to be prosecuted. If someone with severe Amnesia commits a serious crime and forgets, what happens?

You will still be prosecuted. The same as if you were drunk then woke up in jail and did not remember.

You could bring up the issue, but an insanity defense is based on whether you were able to tell the difference between right and wrong at the time of the crime, not afterwards. If someone with severe Amnesia commits a serious crime and forgets, what happens?
Then they go to jail but forget what it's like to be free, so they're not really missing out on anything.

Dear One, The best way to get a friend is to be a friend. Be his friend and try to help him through this by just being you. It is o.k. to try to be his memory here and there if he wants you to be, but don't push him too hard. He might resist remembering. There is a middle ground, you will just have to try to find it. He might turn out different from how you remember him. Let him be that new person and get to know him on that basis. Your friendship could still be intact. Good luck. Sounds like you are a good person with good intentions. How can one recover memories after amnesia?

"I remember that I once had amnesia"- that is technically a paradox, though you may remember glimpses of things that you cant explain fully or dont quite remember doing or cant place. In this case, you could deduct that you had amnesia since you cant quite place this "memory". Other than that, I dont think soDo think it is possible to remember if you once had amnesia?

Why do you only forget certain things during amnesia but remember common knowledge and how to speak?

I know it's not always the case but why is it like that when it does happen? Why do you only forget certain things during amnesia but remember common knowledge and how to speak?
that's short term memory compared to long term memory. you'll most likely remember your name, but you won't remember how you fractured your skull or what day of the week it is. it's the things that are hard-wired into your character, personality, and the things you picked up when you were young that you usually remember. Why do you only forget certain things during amnesia but remember common knowledge and how to speak?
i think that is called selective amnesia, that person actually don't want to remember certain things because that memory may be attached to some unpleasant incident that is why the subconscious mind wants to erase it.

Is it really possible for a young person to have amnesia ?

cause of accident...in a car crash? head bumped into sumthin..? ..the person looses his/her memory for a long time...they even forgot their own name..err i only see these happen in t.v , and movies but i dont really believe cause having amnesia is for old people...am i right? Is it really possible for a young person to have amnesia ?
Older people get alzheimers, a disease that makes them forgetful, but it can also affect relatively young people. Amnesia can happen to all age gropus, even young children. It is where the sufferer gets a bump on the head/concussion/bruising which affects the brain. The brain swells and it's that reaction that causes interference between the electrical signals, causing amnesia and other problems. Sometimes the brain and signals right themselves, and other times you have to learn everything all over again and the brain never recovers. Is it really possible for a young person to have amnesia ?
not correct...it can come for any age as long as you had trauma to your head.

Is there cases in which people do not have infant amnesia?

I'm taking a child human development class and we were discussing infant amnesia, my teacher then brought up that her niece says she remembers the "Wooshing sound" in her mom's belly. She's only two. I'm wondering if maybe some people remember being born or being in the womb.Is there cases in which people do not have infant amnesia?
yea, i remember my papa's pecker thumping on the sac i was all snuggled up cozy in
some believe that everyone has distant memories of being in the womb, not actual memories, like the whooshing sound, but sort of subconscious ones, which is why people are calmed by water and rhythmic noises, because it reminds them of the womb. i dont know any cases of people actually having memories of being born or in the womb, but i think sometimes people can remember things from when they were infants, im 17 and ove had this very distinct memory all my life of a long white hallway with colored fish on the walls, and at the end of the hallway was one of those doors that is divided in half, so the top was open but the bottom wasnt and inside was a daycare with blue walls and carpet and a bookshelf against the wall with a toy firetruck next to it, so i asked my mom which daycare it was and described it to her a few years ago, and she just looked sort of creeped out and amazed, so i asked what was wrong and she said i had just perfectly described a daycare i went to when i was 3 months old.Is there cases in which people do not have infant amnesia?
The little girl doesn't remember back that far. It's power of suggestion. People's long term memory just doesn't go back that far. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with them. It's perfectly normal. I don't have any memories going back further than four years of age. And even those are few and far between.
I'm flat out remembering what I did five minutes ago.Is there cases in which people do not have infant amnesia?

Lets say someone wakes up from a car crash and remembers nothing. Not her parents, herself, her past. But she can speak normally and function. But would she recognize smells?Does a person who was amnesia how the smell of alcohal?
amnesia is something hollywood came up with because it makes cool stories and keeps the audience in suspense... genuine cases of amnesia are like leprosy or two-headed calves... sure it happens, but its incredibly rare.... the question to ask yourself is how can someone remember language, or math, grammar, even things like color and the names of complex devices or machinery.... how can they remember how to drive or program the VCR but not remember their own names? Its a psychological condition where the mind is trying to protect itself from something, some fact or memory.... if the smell will trigger the associated memory, then no, the amnesiac will not recognize the smell... if driving a car will associate the person with the trauma... they wont be able to drive.Does a person who was amnesia how the smell of alcohal?

How do people with amnesia fully recover their memory?

I mean, do they just wake up one morning and remember everything, or do they remember things bit by bit, or as they see things that remind them of the memory? How do people with amnesia fully recover their memory?
It's usually a combination. It mainly depends on what causes the amnesia: traumatic event, a disease of sorts, head injury. If it's a head injury, minor, memories can come back all together. If it's the other two, they come back in fragments. Taking people to places they knew or enjoyed or have history can help most of the timeHow do people with amnesia fully recover their memory?

  • If a cold hearted person gets amnesia will they still be cold hearted?

I think the question is pretty self-explanatory, but to expound on the question, if a person lives a life of "evil" and becomes cold and jaded, will they remain that way even if they develop amnesia, despite not know who they once were?If a cold hearted person gets amnesia will they still be cold hearted?
They won't be okay right away. Unless it's something really recent that causes them to consciously be the way they have been.

Over time, behavior patterns get "burned in", so they may not know or remember why they act the way they do. They're just doing what comes naturally. These folks may not be better right away, but as time passes, their bad behavior may not make sense and fade away if there's no remembered reason.
Depends if something in there childhood or in there life has caused them to be cold-hearted and they get amnesia probably not

but some people are just plain cold-hearted and that's just the kind of person they are.If a cold hearted person gets amnesia will they still be cold hearted?

Not sure, you might want to ask someone who is a brain specialist.

What would happen if a person had amnesia and could not be identified?

    This is for a story.

If an adult was 'found' with no memory of themselves or who they are and the police were unable to identify them, and no one stepped forward to claim them, would they be 'let go' or would they be commited? This is assuming the they had all thier other faculties and intellegence except for thier indenty. What would happen if a person had amnesia and could not be identified?
They could not commit them. Why would they?....... the person may have lost their memories but they have not lost their capacity to take care of themselves nor have they lost their intelligence. They would probably be given social services to help them get a job and a place to live then be left alone to build a new life. What would happen if a person had amnesia and could not be identified?
They will be identified through DNA tests, medical records and dental records - possibly a similar way to identifying somebody who has died.

They wouldn't be 'let go', no. They'd be cared for by the state/government in a place which is most suitable for their needs.

But now the economy is bouncing back people in America understand that President Obama is fighting to repair America after the shame of the Bush years with an unpaid for, pointless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, unregulated banks ruining the economy, and the people of New Orleans left to fend for themselves after the disaster of Hurricane Katrina.

Republicans hope Americans will forget about the shameful disaster of the Bush years, but it's hard to forget when they make fools out of themselves and their presidential candidate says he doesn't care about poor people.
Do you mean the period 2007 - 2010, with the democrats having majority in BOTH House and Senate?

Do you mean that Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, didn't lie ONE MONTH BEFORE FANNIE AND FREDDIE BANKRUPTCY?

"I think this is a case where Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are fundamentally sound. They're not in danger of going under. They're not the best investment these days from a long term standpoint going back. I think they are in good shape going forward. They're in the housing market. I do think their prospects going forward are very solid. "

Yup, sure...Are Republicans hoping for a case of mass amnesia. Is it still to early to forget their catastrophic policies?
I'm curious. Why do you believe Republicans would want the American people to forget that we had a 4.6% unemployment rate the day Democrats took over Washington?

You really should rethink this.. because it just makes you look silly.
they not only are running on that policy but they are betting on it. they are the masters of deception. they can sell you a fart as perfume and these idiots will buy it. they have no memory. Are Republicans hoping for a case of mass amnesia. Is there ever a time that you are going to be held accountable for your own actions?
    No,,,what catastrophic policies?
    http://www.dianedew.com/sanger.htm
    no
You're right, the policies before the Obama administration (during the Bush administration) were catastrophic! Do they want to run on a policy that Obama is worse? They can, and would be quite factual on that. Every single thing that Obama has done has been right out of the Bush playbook, but to a larger degree: larger government, more spending, no transparency, dark-room deals, corporate cronyism, catering to special interest groups, attacking a nation that didn't attack us, intrusion into personal lives, more government control, blatant hypocrisy, and attempts to silent dissent (Republicans did it by questioning the patriotism, Democrats do it by playing the race card.)

The fact is that neither the Republicans or Democrats are really working for the betterment of our nation and the restoration of the US Constitution. It is the illusion of free choice, like cattle choosing which of two chutes to enter to be slaughtered at the slaughterhouse. The end result is the same.

That being said, it is historically proven that white the GOP isn't the greatest solution to the problem of running our nation, they are far better than the DNC alternatives.

Is it normal for Ambien to cause amnesia?

I have been taking Ambien for quite a while and I've noticed that it gives me amnesia once it hits me. I barely remember talking to people on the phone, and I have no idea what we talked about. It's weird because I vaguely remember talking on the phone, but not to who or what about. Eventually on in the day I remember who I talked to, but I never remember what we talked about.

Is this normal? Is it normal for Ambien to cause amnesia?
Ambien (zolpidem) can cause amnesia. That's why it's recommended that it be taken just prior to going to bed. I personally know of an incident of a patient taking the medication, driving to the grocery store, making purchases, driving home and putting the groceries away and the next day not remembering a thing. In that respect, it can be dangerous for some patients.

How much would you remember if you were to have retrograde amnesia?

Hi Hershey - Toke thought I might be able to help.

In 94 I was nearly killed in an accident that destroyed parts of my right temporal and frontal lobes. I woke from a 10 day coma a quadriplegic with total amnesia and the inability to to communicate except with my eyes. Initially my thoughts had no words to describe them and speech of those around me was foreign. At first my only memories were of the the immediate days faces and events, nothing more. I didn't remember my own name or the faces of loved ones, all in all it was the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced. I spent a year in the hospital not only recovering physically but mentally and spiritually. I was given a "generated memory" created by friends and family (mostly my my mother recounting stories of my entire life). The problems I currently have began several years later when my actual memories began to resurface and create violent conflict with those that were generated. I've been seeing a therapist weekly since then to help me resolve these conflicts.

I'm not Christian but some have compared my experience to being born again or even reincarnated. I can't say but I do know my taste in food changed but not my aggressive personality. I was and still am artistic but my style definitely changed and I used to concentrate on two dimensional art but am now more into to three dimensional sculpture. I'm numerically dyslectic now and need others to help me with money but that is more a result of my brain damage than my amnesia. I'm an avid eBay shopper and have migrated back to clothes I found in my closet after I returned home. Brands like Pendleton, Levi and Tony Llama and any English wool tweed jacket (I even wear an ascot occasionally if I'm feeing self conscious about my scars). I'm 59 if that helps explain my fashion or lack of.

RScottHow much would you remember if you were to have retrograde amnesia?
Repressed memories are typically very specific, and have nothing to do with general abilities like how to count, etc. They're consciously inspired, meaning there is a conscious will to forget. Eventually they return however, which is another traumatic event in itself. Almost the last thing a person remembers is why they repressed it in the first place. How much would you remember if you were to have retrograde amnesia?

  • Is there a severe case of amnesia where you are stricken with illiteracy?

I have to write this short story where someone suffers a violent blow to the head and becomes amnesic. But the victim's case is so severe that they wake up not being able to read or write or even speak. The person actually wakes up a bit primitive and instinctual.

Can anyone provide any information for something like this, if there is such a thing?

Thank you.Is there a severe case of amnesia where you are stricken with illiteracy?
Actually, this is quite possible. When a person takes a blow to the head, they develop a neurological head injury. The brain is the thing that makes us read, write and speak. When a person has a stroke fore example, they can lose the ability to do all of the things you mentioned because the flow of blood to the brain is cut off. So when someone becomes a victim of amnesia, they can forget certain skills as well. Their brain is what has contributed to their condition in most cases. There are cases of amnesia where it is psychological and not neurologica but not in most cases. Hope this helps. If not, feel free to email me.

What type of head injury causes retrograde amnesia?

what part of the brain would you have to damage to have retrograde amnesia? how long would it last? how do you diagnose it?What type of head injury causes retrograde amnesia?
retrograde amnesia is often caused by injury to the temporal lobes and especially the hippocampus.

it may last indefinitely or may last only for a short time depending on the severity and location of the damage.

the diagnosis would be made by the injured saying he have no recollection or have a vague memories (as if being in a dream) for stuff that happened before he got his head injured.

usually the memories that are "lost" are new memories (memories of stuff that occurred several hours before the injury, even though it might be more)

if no Anterograde amnesia is present the person should be able to remember things that happened after he had the traumatic event

How many others will surface before next fall? How serious is political amnesia for a person who wants to be President?
Poor memory is a lovely thing. Unfortunately it seems to be very selective.

Hillary can remember every instance of the President's supposed "lies" but she cannot remember who she had dinner with.

Maybe faulty memory only pertains to what she does herself, but we are supposed to believe that she has a perfect memory for what others do, or don't do, or what they said, even if they don't do it to her, and even if she has no direct interest in it.

People remember threats to themselves. I'm sure that she will be able to repeat verbatim all the questions that the press and others are leveling at her now. She will have perfect recall of all of them 20 years from now.

Her memory of individual people, and her connection to them and any deals which were or are to be cut, well that will get much worse before it gets better.

Faulty memory is a wonderful tool.

I agree, selective memory is amazing. Some people have already forgotten who attacked us on 9/11. Some people have already forgotten that there were no WMD's. Some people have already forgotten that our VP shot a man in the face and failed to report it for an entire 24 hours. Some people have forgotten that we use to pay WAY less than 2.00 for a gallon of gas. Some people have forgotten that we are spending 2 billion a day to pump money into the hands of private contractors. Some people have forgotten that our troops and their families are not the ones benefiting from the constant flow of cash being diverted from our schools, our small businesses, our colleges, our communities- some people have forgotten. HOWEVER, some people- will never forget President Clinton cheated on his wife. Vote Hillary- she managed to forgive her husband- raise an intelligent daughter who stayed away from the party scene- and is currently running a hellava campaign for President. Real family values take work- not just words. How serious is political amnesia for a person who wants to be President?

Real answer: Whatever time period you are most comfortable writing in.What is the best time period for a story about amnesia?
Well personally, I would set it in the Victorian era in a mental institute. The Victorians were obsessed with that king of 'black magic'. You could also then do very interesting and wonderful things with somebody waking up, having lost their mind and gradually as they start to get their memory back, they fall into the depths of insanity, and they (and the reader) go through a journey of trying to uncover what is real and what is simply happening inside their heads...

im waiting for therapy at present and are working closely with my mental health team.If you have Amnesia related to Dissociation whats the treatment for it ?
Ironically the condition that you speak of is basically a 'defensive mechanism' one which many of us use[whether we want to admit it or not]! When individuals find themselves in extremely challenging situations, often time the "fight or flight" response does not fulfill the need specifically so what better alternative than let the memory/recall do its part...allowing ones recall/memory to literally 'block out-blank out' an unsettling experience is sometimes the only way for an individual to save their sense of self worth! It's a survival technique! I believe that everyone has utilized such within their lifetime at one point in time or another! It is when the behavior is used to the extreme that one will possibly have some undesirable results....thus some type of intervention may be necessary to simply assist that individual via counsel %26amp;/or behavior modification. You may want to go to www.webmd.com to learn more about your situation...it is a very user friendly site with invaluable resources, go see! I commend you for seeking as well as accepting help with this situation! Take care~If you have Amnesia related to Dissociation whats the treatment for it ?
Dissociative amnesia is a very rare condition, and it is only diagnosed once all other possible causes for amnesia have been ruled out. BPD presents with dissociative symptoms (depersonalization), and so does PTSD. If your doctor concludes that your diagnosis is indeed dissociative amnesia, there is no treatment for it. Either it disappears spontaneously or not at all. There are reports of cases where psychoanalysis or hypnotism seem to have helped, but there are no studies to back them up.If you have Amnesia related to Dissociation whats the treatment for it ?
DBT therapy is the best for any borderline, etc. Google it and see if it exists in your area.

Are Republicans hoping for a case of mass amnesia. Is it still to early to forget their catastrophic policies?

With most Americans still suffering from the results of the Republicans negligence and incompetence in running Government, how to they suppose we will want to vote for them?

Do they want to run on a policy "we may be bad but Obama is worse"?

Do you really think that most Americans would believe this? Facts are we are no longer losing jobs by the millions like we were under Republicans Economic growth is slow now but is at least not contracting like it had been under them. Would you rather go forward or backwards? Are Republicans hoping for a case of mass amnesia. Is it still to early to forget their catastrophic policies?
Unfortunately Americans have an incredibly short memory and short attention spans and they are likely to forget the disaster that was the last Republican Congress. Unfortunately most get their news from television and their information on political matters from political ads of all things. Our collective failure to know more and think clearly often dooms us to elect charlatans and the Republican Party relies upon shallow understanding of what elections are really about. A few nifty sound bites and doublespeak is all they might need. Sad.
Despite Democrats attempts to label this mess as the result of "failed policies" of the Bush years it is clear that, until Democrats took control of Congress these "failed policies" were actually working. The electorate generally understands that Republicans were fought by Democrats when they asked questions and expressed concerns over the subprime mortgage business.

It is the Democrats who need a bit of electoral Alzheimer's not the Republicans. Seems like you already got your dose. Are Republicans hoping for a case of mass amnesia. Is it still to early to forget their catastrophic policies?
Some people just don't get it....the Democrats and Republicans are to blame for the position we are in today. Our government is so large and out of control nothing can be done correctly any more. Each day there are more and more examples of the ineptness of this bureaucratic nightmare of a government we have today. The inflated wages and benefits we pay them and the very poor results we receive from them is unacceptable at best. Our politicians are egomaniacs and do not listen to what the people want anymore...they know what is best for us they say..... Stop blaming the Republicans for all that is wrong today. They all put politics before this country ......Wake up!
Both parties helped to cause this problem. Before Bush, these problems were in the works. He assisted them. Now those problems came to fruition. But instead of learning from Bush %26amp; Clinton, etc., Obama is just making the same mistakes, but on a grander scale. Of course, each administration is pushing their own agenda, but the way they push it is the same: with money we don't have. They encourage citizens to buy with money they didn't have. It's both parties fault. STOP SPENDING SO MUCH MONEY! neither party has done this successfully. Lower taxes for everyone! You'll have growth! I guarantee it. Free the market! It will hurt sometimes, but when it does, they cannot jump back in with stimulus money. Let it go. It will self correct with pain on those who deserve it (those who bot houses they couldn't afford, etc.)Are Republicans hoping for a case of mass amnesia. Is it still to early to forget their catastrophic policies?
Well are democrats expecting change? For the good.no one voted on a president to just make any decision he wants because he can always say "it's bush's fault". I'd rather live in The America that was built on the constitution and be in "debt" like the false graphs dems put up than live in the socialist country Obama is trying to make it
Well first of all they have no understanding of the difference between debt and deficit. So what's the point in talking economics with them???

Secondly - they could care less about economics. What gets right-wingers out to the polls is the promise of locking up gays and Mexicans. Blacks used to be in there too but the NAACP and similar groups seem to be succeeding in standing up to the militant right.
Almost 70% of the deficit is because of BUSH tax cuts (expire end of year) and the two wars we are fighting. SO STFU RETARDLICANS! It's not Obama's fault we are in the mess we are in. Don't be a victim of the Retardlican propaganda, it's all LIES!

Why are you blaming the economy on Democratic Congress?? Did I miss the passing of the "Let the Country Go Down the Toilet Act". It's the deregulation by all the greedy Retardlican SCUM that's killing us and you morons keep voting them in like good little sheeple cowering at their fear mongering.
Apparently you have been blinded by the social media outlets. Look around you. The only thing that this current administration has accomplished is radically increased the deficit. If you want to be a socialist, then get out. Practically every policy that has been pushed out of this administration has put us closer and closer to full blown socialism.
We don't have to.obama has done so badly and made so many poor choices and has not governed anyone anywhere--all we have to do is point out what a failure ALREADY obama is..how inept and over his head--how incompetent and incapable of leading, governing, or protecting Americans.

All the ammo has come from Obama himself--it's rich! can't wait...to unseat all the cronies..in congress.
    When Democrats took Congress:

    Unemployment= 4.6%

    Stock market= 1,400

Obama has lost 2.5 million jobs since taking office.
Did you forget about the Democrats recession?

Unemployment was 4.6% before democrats took over, now its 9.6%

Democrats added more debt in 1 year than the republican congress did in 6 years under Bush

    what are you smokin?
so let me get this straight, Bush left a 250 Billion dollar Deficit, so what does Obama do to fix it? He inflates it to 1.7 trillion dollars in 2 years

You didnt see AMERICA LOCKING ANYONE IN !!!! But as we speak there is a mass exodus of people leaving the USA becuz they are bright enough to see that it's not America anymore !!!!!! There's a MUSLIM, socialist (communist) in our highest office right now !!!! Things have done nothing but go bad under him %26amp; those who actually run it behind the scenes !!!! The deficit was in the Millions, now it's in the Trillions !!!!! We can't take care of our own people's medical, food, housing, etc, but he sends $Billions to overseas countries who are either socialist or communist !!!! Perhaps one day you'll see the light, but I doubt it !!!!!
You must use the 5 Why's principle

Why are we in a recession? Because the banks collapsed due to large amounts of defaulted mortgage credit.

Why did we have large amounts of defaluts? Because the law was changed to allow people to get mortgages they could not prove they could afford?

Why did the laws change? Because the Democratic Congress under a Democratic president passed a law in the name of Affirmative Action so that common fiscal sense in denying a loan to someone who could not afford it could now possibly be a criminal practice.

Gee, it only took three, go figure.....

And for the record, the good times during the Clinton years were DIRECTLY due to the positive growth policies (low taxes, etc) enacted during the Reagan years. What most uneducated people (especially liberals) is that a change in an economic force takes YEARS to happen from the time it is implemented to the time we see the results. This happens in both directions. Clinton smoked us in 1999 with the Lending Act, and it took this long for the effects to be seen.
Neither Republicans or Democrats are competent of running anything. People talk about Obama being a catastrophe. Sure. We have been barreling down this path for decades. And you know what, people DO NOT GIVE A CRAP! You know what, in my state, not one incumbent lost in the primaries a couple of weeks ago. NOT ONE! And this country always complains about the country being ruined? No ###! Look at who gets put in office time and time again. How about getting past the damn (D) and (R) and actually looking at the actual candidate. They are all ruining the country!
"Mass amnesia" won't help...Dem voters were unaware to begin with...It's impossible to forget something that you never knew...

I remember all the way back to the end of 2006 when Democrats took control of congress, and the steady decline of the economy and increase in unemployment since that time...I remember how well my family was doing, and how easy it was to pay our mortgage and utility bills on time every month BEFORE the Democrats took control...I remember that we USED TO be able to eat just as well as my sister who lives on welfare and food stamps because she doesn't like to work...I am confused as to why the people who won't work are continually getting increases in their government checks and food stamps, while those of us who do work are able to afford less and less to support our families...That's why I will keep trying to vote the Democrats out.

If a man signed a contract and then after getting amnesia (FORGETTING EVERY ASPECT OF HIS LIFE) decides he isnt responsible for his previous actions. can he legally get out of the contract by proving he isnt the same person in court?

The question has been bugging me for daysCan a man with amnesia be held to a contract he signed before losing his memory?
I don't believe he can get out of it, legally. I'm almost positive the issue applies to when the contract was made, not fulfilled. Can a man with amnesia be held to a contract he signed before losing his memory?
Yes...Can a man with amnesia be held to a contract he signed before losing his memory?
    Yup.
As long as he had capacity to enter into a contract at the time he signed it, then, yes.

Is a person who suffers from amnesia the same person they were before they experienced amnesia?

In answering this question, I would like to know your opinion on the diachronic personal identity.

You may include Locke and Hume, or any other philosopher you think is essential to understanding personal identity.

My theory is that personal experience, and the memory of these experiences, form our identity. Is a person who suffers from amnesia the same person they were before they experienced amnesia?
The brain needs memory to re-present its sense of self at any time if a person is to continue his daily actions as a particular person from moment to moment. In the case of light amnesia, the self is re-constituted after a day or so of memory loss: this sense of the self is the successful re-building up of parts of the self into the previous whole (self). For example, a person who suffers from mild concussion quite quickly regains (so to speak) his self after some time.

In the case of acute amnesia, it is likely that some parts (i.e. memories) of the self are no longer there to help re-constitute the important component of self, or that the remaining parts no longer "help" to link up the self; or in the case of Alzheimer's Syndrome, the parts are so few that the brain can no longer connect or can connect only very weakly, or so poorly as to be of no help at all. In acute cases, the "same person" is no more present though you may have a living body right in front of you.

Most of us have the opinion that memory is something we need for remembering exam info or the birthday of the spouse or for a reporting of events in the past. This is the least important aspect of memory. The most significant function of memory is its contribution to our selfhood at every waking moment of our brief lives. Is a person who suffers from amnesia the same person they were before they experienced amnesia?
